Surat ur Rahmaan, Verse 1:
This Surah was revealed in Makkah
The Messenger of Allah (saw) went to his Companions and recited Surat ur-Rahmaan from beginning to end for them, but they did not say anything. The Prophet (saw) said:
“I recited it to the Jinns, on the night of the Jinns and their response was better than yours! Whenever I recited Allah’s saying:
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
{Then which of the blessings of your Lord will you both (man and jinn) deny?}
They said, “None of Your favours do we deny, our Lord! All praise is due to you.”
[At-Tirmidhi]
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
{In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.}
This great surah begins with the name of Allah (SWT), Ar-Rahman, the Most Gracious. This is indicative of the vastness of His grace and mercy, the all-encompassing nature of His generosity, and the abundance of His kindness and bounty. All Praise and thanks be to Him.
ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ
{1. Ar-Rahman!}
